A detailed guide about Solar Panel

What is Solar Panel ?

This is a panel that is a combination of solar cells that convert light ( sunlight received from sun ) into Electricity . By using these solar panels , direct sunlight is converted in electricity . This conversion is only possible because of semiconductors , panels are made up of semiconducting material .

How solar panels work ?

These panels works by absorbing sunlight with photo voltaic cells , producing DC ( direct current ) energy and then converting it into usable current i.e Alternating Current ( AC ) energy with technology called as inverter technology . Alernating current flows through home’s appliances and distributed accordingly to required supply as per appliance’s needs .

Here are steps that will help you to know how solar panels work in your homes :

1. First and main Step is that sunlight is absorbed by cells , Photovoltaic cells and that converts sunlight into Direct current i.e DC electricity .

2. Secondly, Inverter is implemented / placed inside the solar panel that helps DC to change itself into alternating current , which is normally used .

How grids work with solar panels ?

Although electricity generation by solar panels may be understandable to many people, there is still a lot of general confusion about how the grid process goes in the home solar system.  When you install solar panels on your roof or the roof of your home, they eventually connect to your home’s operating meter. It contains a meter that help us to measure amount of electricity generated and used.

Most homeowners in the U.S. It has access to the net meter, which is a great incentive for the most economically efficient solar panel. These types of incentives, coupled with the fact that the cost of solar has dropped nearly 70 percent over the last decade, may explain why the solar industry is growing at such a critical rate in the United States.

Uses of solar Energy

Solar energy is used on low scale for works other than described . In countries , solar energy is used for many purposes but mainly to extract salt from sea water by process of evaporation i.e by collecting water vapors . Next to this , solar-powered desalination change salty water into water that we drink by transforming the energy to hear , to drive the process of desalination .

Solar technology has also enhanced for renewable production of H i.e hydrogen as an alternative source of energy which is renewable . Copying the photosynthesis’s process , leaves are made artifical those silicon based devices that use energy to change water into hydrogen and oxygen that is splitting hydrogen and oxygen . Moreover , work is needed to enhance the efficiency and less cost of these devices for industrial uses .

Other renewable sources of energy

Wind Energy ( Energy from moving air )

Wind is made by uneven heat received by earth and uneven heating of the surface of earth . Earth surface is made up of variety of materials and it captures heat at various rates . For example – As land heats up faster than water , water heats up slowly than land .

Wind energy is also a from of solar energy . In this process wind is used to generate appropiate amount of electricity . Turbines convert the KE i.e kinetic energy in the wind to ME i.e mechanical energy . A generator , that converts mechanical energy into electricity . This power can be directly used for many purposes . Amount of electricity generated depends on three factors – Wind speed , Density of the air , Swept area of the turbine .

Wind speed – The speed of wind directly impacts the amount of energy made . Wind speed, it effects the electricity generated  .Suppose if speed is doubled , energy generated will be eight times

Density of the air . The more dense the air , more electricity is produced by the turbines .
